Date:
Wednesday, January 22, 2025
02:00 PM - 03:30 PM Eastern
02:00 PM - 03:30 PM Eastern
Rural communities face unique challenges in finding and keeping skilled workers. These, in combination with declines in the working-age population, means employers must seek talent from new sources. Hiring people with disabilities can be a part of the solution.
In this panel presentation, experts will discuss strategies employers can use to include and support disabled talent to meet their workforce needs in rural communities. A small business owner will provide information about the techniques they have successfully used to recruit, hire, and retain employees with disabilities. During the webinar, you will learn more about:
- Implementing effective strategies to recruit, hire, retain, and advance people with disabilities in businesses located in rural communities.
- Understanding unique challenges disabled workers face in rural communities and solutions to combat them, e.g., lack of transportation options, uneven broadband access, limited access to social services, geographical isolation, and uneven access to education and training.
- Discovering ways to connect with workers with disabilities, including how to partner with local agencies for support.
Panelists will include:
- Rebecca Holland, American Indian Vocational Rehabilitation Training and Technical Assistance Center (AIVRTTAC) Vocational Rehabilitation Coordinator at Northern Arizona University, Member of the Board of Directors of the Consortia of Administrators for Native American Rehabilitation (CANAR)
- Catherine Ipsen, Director of the Research and Training Center on Disability in Rural Communities (RTC:Rural), Associate Director for the Rural Institute for Inclusive Communities (RIIC)
